Archive is Baron’s latest collection of Joyce Lee’s artworks, following her debut publication. Featuring 150 images, the book explores Lee’s lush, sensual, and surreal worlds, where the human body is often transformed into objects suggestive of body parts. Her work blends over-the-top sexuality with visual gags, creating a bizarre, obscene, and joyful sense of humor that challenges the notion that art must be serious. Lee juxtaposes history and modernity, beauty and trash, blurring the lines between high and low culture. She reworks pieces by Dalí, Magritte, and Manet while incorporating pop culture references and brand logos, playfully subverting 'high culture' with kitsch and mass consumer aesthetics. Gaining widespread recognition online, Lee has cultivated an independent, engaged fanbase beyond the confines of traditional galleries. Archive serves as a physical documentation of her career, separate from the digital realm, while its title reflects the many references that shape her work. The book also includes an intimate interview with Lee, offering deeper insight into her artistic process. Published in 2024 by Baron, Archive follows Lee’s first book, Baron by Joyce Lee (2022). The hardback edition features black printed book edges, a double-sided dust cover, ribbon markers, pull-out pages, and 300 pages with 150 illustrations.
